Cara Delevingne Reflected On The “Growth” And “Pain” She’s Experienced As She Paid Sweet Tribute To Her Girlfriend Minke (2024)

In September 2022, Cara Delevingne sparked concern when a video of her behaving erratically at Van Nuys Airport emerged online. “There’s an element of feeling invincible when I’m on drugs. I put myself in danger in those moments because I don’t care about my life,” she said, adding that she behaved recklessly while at the festival and was covered in bruises by the time she got home. And now, more than 18 months after the airport footage started to circulate, Cara has taken to her social media page to reflect on the “growth” and “pain” she has gone through over the past couple of years as she paid tribute to her girlfriend, Minke, on their two-year anniversary. In her post’s caption, she wrote: “Two magical years with you and so many pictures of us kissing in front of things ❤️ These past two years have been A LOT of life. A lot of change, growth, pain and most importantly LOVE and I am so lucky to have found the perfect person to ride life’s ups and downs with." “I cannot imagine living life without you,” Cara went on. “I spent so long looking for my partner in crime, little did I know that it would be someone I went to school with (and had a baby gay crush on). Here’s to many more years being us…” Meanwhile, Minke shared even more photos of herself and Cara on her Instagram page, where she wrote: “Every day is better with your light. My rock, my safe space, my home.” Looking for more LGBTQ+ or Pride content? Then check out all of BuzzFeed's posts celebrating Pride 2024. Looking for more LGBTQ+ or Pride content? In September 2022, Cara Delevingne sparked concern when a video of her behaving erratically at Van Nuys Airport emerged online.

In the footage, the British model looks disheveled and distressed as she wanders around without shoes on while repeatedly dropping her phone on the floor.

And last year, Cara opened up about the truth behind the video in an interview with Vogue — where she admitted that the clip and accompanying paparazzi photos ended up being the wake-up call that she needed to get help for addiction.

In the interview, Cara revealed that she was just 7 years old when she had her first experience with alcohol, and 10 when she started to take prescription pills.

Referencing the airport footage explicitly, the star explained that she had just returned from Burning Man festival — where she had indulged in drugs and alcohol — when it was captured. She told Vogue: “I hadn’t slept. I was not OK.”

“There’s an element of feeling invincible when I’m on drugs. I put myself in danger in those moments because I don’t care about my life,” she said, adding that she behaved recklessly while at the festival and was covered in bruises by the time she got home.

“I would climb anything and jump off stuff… It felt feral. It’s a scary thing to the people around you who love you,” Cara added.

Vogue reported that the video was “a source of overwhelming shame and embarrassment” for Cara, with the star sharing: “It’s heartbreaking because I thought I was having fun, but at some point it was like, OK, I don’t look well. You know, sometimes you need a reality check, so in a way, those pictures were something to be grateful for.”

This prompted Cara to reach out to her loved ones for support as she also joined a 12-step program, with the star saying last year that she had realized she needed to work on “the deeper stuff” to recover fully.

Cara and the musician, whose real name is Leah Mason, first met more than 20 years ago when they went to boarding school together. They reconnected in 2022, and started dating shortly afterwards.

Sharing a selection of loved-up videos and photos to honor their relationship, Cara said she was “so lucky to have found the person to ride life’s ups and downs with."

“I can’t remember what life was like without your love and I never want to know,” Minke added. “You are extraordinary and I’m literally the luckiest girl in the world. The ups and downs, the really hard times, the growth, the many spiders you’ve had to take outside - That time we got stuck at every motorway stop cause we couldn’t speak italian and work the ticket machine. I wouldn’t change a thing.”
