Toby Heaps

Toby is the chief executive officer and co-founder ofCorporate Knights. He spearheaded the first global ranking of the world’s 100 most sustainable corporations in 2005, and in 2007 coined the term “clean capitalism.” Toby has been published in the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal and the Globe and Mail, and is a regular guest speaker on CBC. In 1998, he played centrefield for the Yugoslav National Baseball Team.

Adria Vasil
Managing Editor

Adria is one of Canada's leading environmental journalists, with two decades of experience in sustainability reporting and a trio of bestselling "Ecoholic" books on green living. Having worked as a researcher tracking corporate supply chains in the non-profit world before becoming a journalist, Adria has a nose for investigating corporate sustainability practices. The longtime environmental columnist is a straight-shooting advocate for sustainability and has been a regular commentator on CBC television and radio and other national media outlets. As a lecturer at Toronto Metropolitan University's School of Journalism, she taught third and fourth-year journalism students the finer points of critical and opinion writing.

Alex Robinson

Alex is a journalist with experience covering everything from murders to mergers in newsrooms all over North America. Before he joined Corporate Knights, he was the editor of Modern Farmer, an American publication for people who want to know more about where their food comes from. He is currently based in Ottawa, where he lives with his wife, daughter and two cats.

Natalie Alcoba
Associate Editor

Natalie Alcoba is a Argentine-Canadian journalist based in Buenos Aires. She covers a range of topics, including the women’s movement in Latin America, politics, the economy, human rights and grassroots environmental movements. She has co-produced short documentaries on 100% inflation, trans rights, the impact of the pandemic on women workers, land occupations and the legalization of abortion in Argentina.Prior to moving to Argentina, she was a reporter for more than a decade in Canada at newspapers such as the National Post, the Toronto Star, the Montreal Gazette, and the Hamilton Spectator. She served as managing editor of VICE News Canada for four years, shepherding coverage on national issues such as the crisis of unsafe drinking water in Indigenous communities and the opioid epidemic. She has also reported from Sierra Leone and India. She has taught at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), where she obtained her journalism degree.

Rick is a business journalist, editor, public speaker and entrepreneur. The the former editor and publisher of PROFIT, The Magazine for Canadian Entrepreneurs, Rick has also edited the University of Toronto Magazine as well as Director, the journal of the Institute of Corporate Directors. For 15 years, he wrote a weekly column on entrepreneurship and innovation for the National Post and Postmedia newspapers across Canada – reaching almost one million people per week. Rick is the author of Secret of Success from Canada’s Fastest-Growing Companies (published by Wiley), the first Canadian book on scaling a business.

Jack Dylan
Creative director

Jack has been the designer and senior art director for Corporate Knights since fall 2011. He is also a freelance illustrator, creating editorial illustrations, posters, graphics, and comics. A recent review of his work stated that: “In much of his recent work, a minimalist and often restricted approach to form and color is wonderfully complimented by the addition of fine details and contrasting accents, while in many of his other pieces, a more playful tone is achieved through elaborate, dense line-work and subtle abstraction." Past clients have included the CBC, Globe and Mail, Maclean’s, McGill University, New York Press, Toronto Life, Volkswagen (Via Palmhaves) and The Walrus.

Lesley Fraser
Copy Editor

​​Lesley has been the Corporate Knights copy editor and proofreader since spring 2019 and is the managing editor of The Philanthropist Journal. Other clients include HarperCollins Canada, Travelier magazine, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, and Whitman Emorson design studio. She previously worked at Pink Triangle Press, copyediting the Xtra magazines and website, and NOW magazine. Before stumbling into her editing career, she had a long stint in hospitality and wine sales and is a certified sommelier. She and her partner and their two cats divide their time between Toronto and Point Edward, in southwestern Ontario.

Sanket Sharma
Business Development

Sanket is the Business Development coordinator at Corporate Knights. His work has appeared in the Literary Review of Canada, Thismagazine, Outpost magazine and he was a fact-checker at The Walrus. Before he worked in publishing, Sanket worked in business development for a start-up and in various financial institutions. He has a Bachelor's degree in Management (B.M.S) from the University of Mumbai and is a graduate of Centennial College's Book, Magazine and Electronic Publishing program.

Chris St. Prince
Director of Operations

Chris is a writer and environmentalist with more than ten years of experience in management, communications and branding in various spaces. He has volunteered extensively in environmental and animal advocacy. He has a BA in Fine Arts and recently completed graduate work in fiction writing.

Ralph Torrie
Director of Research

Ralph has been working on sustainability issues since the late 1970's whenhe had a leadership role in Canada's first long range study of the potentialfor conservation and renewable energy. Years later he produced a low carbonscenario analysis for Canada, possibly the first such study in the world. Heis the inventor of strategic planning software for local government climatemitigation that was widely deployed throughout the world. In addition tohis consulting practice, he served as assistant coordinator of the EnergyResearch Group of the United Nations University and the InternationalDevelopment Research Centre, Vice President of ICF International(NASDAQ:ICFI), Managing Director of Navigant (NYSE:NCI), and Managing Director of the Trottier Energy Futures Project. He is widely published inboth peer reviewed and popular literature. Ralph lives in Cobourg, Ontariowith his partner, has two grandsons, and gardens.

Matthew Malinsky
Research Manager

Graduating in 2015 from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Management, Economics and Finance, Matthew went on to work in the field for 4 years. His passion for sustainability and environmental issues led him to enroll in Ryerson University's Master of Environmental Applied Science & Management program in 2019. Over the last 2 years, Matthew has split his time between developing his thesis analyzing 20 of the world's largest eco-funds on the environmental performance of their holdings, and academic research projects, with a primary focus on ESG ratings and rankings. Having successfully defended his thesis in May 2021, he has joined Corporate Knights, bringing his knowledge on sustainable investing and ESG.

Gabriel Faucher
Lead Data Scientist/Data Engineer

Gabriel is a data scientist, developer and writer. He has previously worked for the University of Toronto, the Ontario College of Art and Design, and IBM. Originally from Boston, he now lives in Toronto and holds a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Toronto.
