After a day on one of my favorite beaches (Honeymoon Island State Park), we were hungry. I like fancy, Michelin stars, molecular gastronomy, and table-side preparations. But, sometimes I just want good food that is served in a casual, fun environment. Frenchy’s Outpost Bar & Grillwas the perfect choice. The restaurant is described as “an open-air Key West style restaurant” with “lots of outdoor dining, a large Tiki bar, and live daily music.”

Anthony’s Take: We had driven past this restaurant many times on our way to and from the beach. I was always intrigued by the giant grouper out front and how much fun it looked. We weren’t disappointed. The food was tasty and the vibe was light and relaxing. We’ll definitely be back.

Decor & Vibe

The restaurant is open air so the tables are situated around a large patio. The colors are fun and bright. You feel like you’re in the Caribbean or Key West as soon as you enter and even more so after co*cktails arrive.

I loved the exterior Adirondack chairs and lush foliage. It definitely drew us in as we passed by the restaurant.

Food

The menu has a mix of sandwiches, pasta, and entrees, all with a seafood focus, which makes sense given its coastal location.

I started with a cup of the She Crab soup. It was creamy but a little bland. Some hot sauce made it delicious.

We also tried the Fire Island Shrimp. They were crispy and I liked the sauce. It wasn’t spicy, but a mild heat.

I had the Stuffed Grouper for an entree. It’s stuffed with crab and topped with a Dijon caper hollandaise sauce. The sauce was a little thick, but the fish was fresh and the flavors were good. Frenchy’s is known for its grouper and next time I am going to try one of the sandwiches.

My husband tried the Master Mahi. It’s coated in panko bread crumbs, pan fried, and topped with mango jalapeño cream sauce with roasted corn, sliced avocado, and habañero aioli. He was satisfied with the sauce and avocado. The portion was a good size and he left full.

Drinks

With the vibe of Frenchy’s Outpost, you know there is going to be a good selection of beer and co*cktails. My husband had a Frenchy’s Rum Runner and I went wild with an unsweetened iced tea. I guess I’m used to the price of drinks in NYC because $8.50 is a real bargain for a mixed drink.

Overall Impression:

Frenchy’s Outpost Bar & Grill offers solid food, fun drinks, and a laid-back island vibe. It’s a great spot to eat after a day at Honeymoon Island.
