Behavior[]

Sea Beasts, unlike most aggressive NPCs, are only vulnerable to special moves and are immune to most M1 attacks. There are some exceptions to these such as

Some non-M1 special moves also won't deal any damage to Sea Beasts, most notably single-target moves (e.g. Shadow's Z move and Shadow’s C move).

Spawning[]

Natural spawning[]

  • When riding around a Boat in the Second Sea, there's a small chance for a Sea Beast to appear in front of the sailor’s Boat. It should be noted that the player doesn't have to actively ride the Boat around for the Sea Beast to appear and can simply remain still and wait.
  • In the Third Sea, there's a small chance for Rumbling Waters to occur when riding a Boat at Sea Danger Level 1-6. During this Sea Event, multiple Sea Beasts will emerge from the sea and heavy rain will ensue. The way to tell the difference is that during a rumbling waters, a text will appear at the top saying <Rumbling Waters>.

Abilities[]

NameDescriptionMove notesStrategy
Deadly Shower

Sea Beast (6)

The same as Water Kung Fu's X move, though significantly larger.Medium-ranged attack, used commonly against ledges. Deals the most damage out of all other moves, although it's easy to dodge when in the sea.Move around by dashing or swimming to evade the attack.
Water Beam

Sea Beast (7)

Shoots a deadly blue-colored beam that deals about 1500 damage and knocks the player back. It's similar to Cannon's Z attack, only blue and much larger.Long-ranged attack, used when the player is more than 75 studs away or on top of the Sea Beast's head. If the player uses Ice, Awakened Magma or Awakened Buddha while standing on/in the water, the Sea Beast can fling them into the water, causing rapid loss of Health. Players can negate this damage if they have Shark V2 or above. When you hear the Sea Beast charge its water beam, turn on Instinct and turn it off afterward to prevent Instinct Breaks or dodges being used up.
Deadly Roar

Sea Beast (8)

Roars, sending out an AoE attack that stuns the player, deals damage, and breaks Instinct.Close-range attack, used to knock players away and prevent them from countering the Water Beam move.Predict when the move happens and turn Instinct off, as this attack will rapidly use up dodges.
Dive

Sea Beast (9)

Returns to the water for a short amount of time, then emerges back a while after.Completely disappears while underwater, cannot be seen or damaged by any moves.Conserve your Energy until it ascends back onto the water's surface.

Tips[]

  • It's heavily recommended to use Boats with high health, e.g. Grand Brigade.
  • The Shark race is specifically useful when fighting Sea Beasts, especially Shark V2 and above due to its immunity to water damage.
  • Death Step has long-ranged and high-damage moves that are useful against Sea Beasts.
  • Ice and awakened Magma are handy due to their passive ability to walk on water.
    • Awakened Buddha is also fairly useful as its transformed mode hitbox is above the water.
  • Awakened Magma is one of the best fruits for Sea Beasts, because of its high damage. When using it, use the unawakened X move because the awakened X move cannot damage sea beasts.
  • Leopard or Mammoth is particularly recommended for hunting Sea Beasts, as all of its moves can damage them, even including the roar when transforming.
  • Blizzard or Dough (V2) is also an amazing choice as all moves including F and Tap (Only Dough V2) can damage them.
  • There are 3 most recommended swords:
    1. Shark Anchor is recommended and the most effective for hunting Sea Beasts because of its ability to easily receive, Z attack damage with great range, more important than the increased X damage when dealing damage to a Sea Beast.
    2. Saber recommended for first-time sword users who are hunting. Although Z move's damage has been significantly reduced and less mobility.
    3. Cursed Dual Katana is also recommended for hunting because of its high mobility but is difficult to obtain and its hitbox is difficult to target, sometimes bouncing back.
  • The Leviathan Shield is ideal for killing Sea Beasts due to its 90% protection against Sea damage and 30% defense against Sea Events, which includes Sea Beasts. It also provides the player with a +1000 Health boost. However, this isn't necessary if you're using Shark race.
  • Leviathan Crown or Shark Tooth Necklace can also be used to deal more damage to Sea Events, which includes Sea Beasts; however, if the player has not unlocked these, they can use various other Accessories that boost damage.

Strategies[]

  • The easiest way to kill Sea Beast/Rumbling Waters is to use magma to damage each Sea Beast or to use Mammoth F move while transformed. You don't even need to be near the Sea Beast to do Damage. This makes even Rumbling Waters extremely easy to solo.
  • It is recommended to stay below Sea Danger Level 3, as the Terrorshark and other factors may easily destroy your boat. (Only in Third Sea)
  • The player should not have their Instinct on at all times and only use it to dodge Water Beams, as certain attacks can drain/break their Instinct, preventing the player from dodging incoming beams.
  • The player should try to stay high in the air so that Water Beam does not push the player underwater and kill them.
  • The player should learn to read the moves. If they are far away and the Sea Beast suddenly turns their way and recoils, or if they emit a certain charging sound effect, they are likely going to use the Water Beam. This can be easily read and countered by dodging with Instinct or by dodging using a dash move (not recommended as the timing is extremely tight). The player should turn off Instinct immediately after dodging the beam (unless they hear another beam incoming) to prevent other attacks from disabling it.
  • The Sea Beast usually uses Deadly Shower at closer range. Each bullet does minuscule damage but can be fatal if all of them hit. It should not pose a threat due to the large space between projectiles, making it easier to dodge the projectiles, unless the player is a Buddha user, or are near a surface for the projectiles to explode. The attack has a long duration, and the Sea Beast is stuck in place while performing the attack, making it vulnerable.
  • If the Sea Beast suddenly stops moving and raises its head, it's recommended that the player turns off your instinct as this signifies the Sea Beast is about to roar, breaks Instinct and renders the player vulnerable.
  • When the player hears/notices a Water Beam incoming, they should stop holding the move and activate Instinct immediately. It is preferable to dodge the beam than to deal more damage and risk losing health in the middle of the fight.
  • When retreating to heal, the player should not go too far away from the Sea Beast if they do not have any Instinct dodges. It can still use Water Beam even if the player is far away. Meanwhile, being closer the Sea Beast will trigger it to use Deadly Shower and Roar, which can easily be avoided or tanked.
  • Using large Area of Effect moves such as Blizzard's V move or Dough's C move in the center of a group of Sea Beasts can damage multiple of them. The player can use this to their advantage to prevent them from de-spawning and maximize damage.
  • Using certain Fruit travel (F) moves such as Blizzard's, Dough's, Awakened Magma's or Mammoth's is a good way to deal extra damage when all of the player's moves are on cooldown.
  • When fighting multiple Sea Beasts, the player should focus on one Sea Beast at a time instead of rendering all the Sea Beasts in the group low or try use Blizzard if they want to fight every sea beast.
  • Occasionally using long-ranged moves on other Sea Beasts is a good tactic to prevent them from despawning.

Trivia[]

  • The theme that plays when the player encounter a Sea Beast is called "Haunted Halls". The same theme also plays when the player is at the Dark Arena or Treasure Island.
  • Multiple Sea Beasts can spawn in the Second Sea, but they are not Rumbling Waters because there is no rain and the top doesn’t show "<Rumbling Waters>."
  • Sea Beasts let out roars when spawned. The player can use this to find Sea Beasts efficiently. However, the player should keep in mind that Awakened Magma's F move has a similar sound effect, but a little bit shorter duration, which may lead to confusion.
  • Sea Beasts will disappear once the player is out of range for too long (around 30 seconds), or automatically after 15 minutes if not killed.
  • Players were able to walk on Sea Beasts' heads before the remodel of their design.
  • "SB" is an abbreviation of Sea Beast (such as "sb hunt" for when people want to hunt Sea Beasts).
  • Multiple people can get a Fist of Darkness from the same Sea Beast, as long as they do enough damage.
  • Sea Beasts cannot be seen with Instinct, although their moves can be dodged with it.
  • The reason sea beast can't be hit with m1 (Questions made by players because of terror shark being hittable with m1) its because the requirements to be a raid boss and be hittable with m1 is: Having a full moveset, being able to move since the NPC needs to take knockback and being able to take stun since raid bosses can't hit anyone while being combo-ed (Ex: Tush*ta Z) like players do.
  • Although able to receive damage from Sanguine Art's Z Move, the player will not attach or steal any health, which damages the Sea Beast thanks to the bats.
