Can I Bake These Nachos in Oven Instead of Grill

Yes. If the weather is not permitting or if you prefer the oven, you can use a cookie sheet and lay the aluminum foil down on the baking sheet. The grill will add a bit of smokey flavor to the recipe, but it is not something you have to have done.

How to Make Loaded Nacho Recipe

Start by warming up your grill. You then want to lay out foil (around 20 inches long) and put two on top of each other. On the longest side, fold both pieces of foil together, and over, 3 times. This is going to combine the sheets together to make one huge piece of foil.

After folding the foil together, open the non folded sides opening to one giant sheet (fold part should be in the center). Spray the whole foil with nonstick spray.

Place tortilla chips into the center of the foil. Spread beans out on top of the chips, then tomatoes, then sprinkle the cheese on top to cover.

Pull up long sides of the foil, together with above the chips; fold twice to seal, leaving room above nachos. Roll the sides up so that they are sealed, also leaving some space around nachos.

Place on grill over low heat, close grill, cook for 8-10 minutes. Remove, open carefully (steam will be coming out), add green onions, sour cream, and hot sauce (optional) to the top.

Serve immediately and enjoy!

Easy grilled loaded nachos that are stuffed full of toppings and cheese. This loaded nacho recipe is easy and downright finger licking good.

Ingredients

  • 1⁄2 bag of tortilla chips

  • 4 ounces monterey jack cheese, shredded
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • 1⁄4 cup sour cream
  • hot sauce, optional

Instructions

  2. On the longest side, fold both pieces of foil together, and over, 3 times. This is going to combine the sheets together to make one huge piece of foil.
  3. After folding the foil together, open the non folded sides opening to one giant sheet (fold part should be in the center). Spray the whole foil with non stick spray.
  4. Place tortilla chips into the center of the foil. Spread beans out on top of the chips, then tomatoes, then sprinkle the cheese on top to cover.

  8. Note: Be sure to cook over LOW heat on the grill. Cooking over too high of heat will result in chips burning on the bottom. Also be sure to leave room around nachos when sealing the foil pack, you need there to be room for steam to circulate to melt the cheese and heat everything.

How to Store Leftover Nachos

If you have leftovers, store in the fridge. They will last 1-2 days and then become a bit mushy and need to be tossed out. They are best when served warm.

Best Way to Reheat Nachos

If you want to reheat your nachos you can warm them up in the oven very easily. Preheat oven to 350 degrees, toss them in on aluminum foil and then heat till warmed through. Or if you want to eat them cold!

FAQs

Do you put toppings on nachos before or after cooking? ›

To achieve this, put one layer of chips on a baking sheet, then cover with cheese and toppings. Repeat until you've used everything up so that every bite is the same from beginning to end. Sprinkle on fresh toppings like cilantro, scallions, tomatoes, and pickled jalapenos on after the nachos come out of the oven.

What is the secret to making good nachos? ›

The best nachos feature a mix of cooked and fresh ingredients, such as grilled shrimp and cilantro. Yet it's best to keep hot and cold separate throughout the preparation process, so fresh herbs and green onions don't wilt from heat, and guacamole and sour cream don't liquefy.

How do you keep loaded nachos from getting soggy? ›

* Bring refrigerated toppings to room temperature before piling them onto the warm chips. * To prevent the chips from getting soggy, sprinkle grated or crumbled cheese on top and bake them in the oven for a few minutes. When melted, the cheese will act as a buffer between the chips and toppings.

Are nachos better in the oven or grill? ›

The cooking method

Drummond "nukes" the nachos in a microwave and the NYT grills them, but the best results, I find, come from baking, which heats the dish all the way through without making the base layer soft and chewy.

How to layer the best nachos? ›

For better coverage, spread a single layer of tortilla chips, then scatter a minimal layer of your melting cheese of choice, making sure to coat the chips on the edges. Bake in a 300-degree oven until the cheese has melted, then scatter your beans or meats and vegetable toppings over the cheese.

What cheese melts best for nachos? ›

The protein in the older, drier cheese becomes a bit stubborn and will never be a melter like mozzarella. Examples of good melters are: cheddar, colby, Swiss, monterey jack, and mozzarella.

What makes nachos taste better? ›

Go crazy with the cheese

That's why you want to add something like shredded cheddar or Colby – these provide some much-needed texture to balance all that sauce. And feel free to experiment by shredding other cheeses based on flavor or spiciness. “Always layer your nachos to ensure a proper mixture of flavors.”

Do you put salsa on nachos before cooking? ›

Method
  1. Tip tortilla chips on to a baking tray, pour over salsa and scatter over a few sliced spring onions.
  2. Grate over a good chunk of cheese (fontina is perfect, but cheddar will do). Add a pinch of crushed chilli flakes, then put under a hot grill for about 3 minutes to melt the cheese.

What is the fully loaded nachos rule? ›

We have a rule that basically says. if 2 people order nachos to share, one person can't take the ones with me and stuff.

What are the best chips for nachos? ›

Best Tortilla Chips for Nachos: Santitas Tortilla Triangles

These chips don't have a ton of flavor on their own, but the crispness and sturdiness of these chips make them the perfect vehicle for carrying hefty dips or nachos loaded with all of the toppings you enjoy.

What is the best order for nachos? ›

Start with a base of tortilla chips, cheese, salsa, jalapeño, and any warm fillings like meats and veggies. Once the cheese melts, remove from the oven, add another layer, and repeat. This extra step ensures your nachos are well-covered and evenly baked from top to bottom.

Should we bake or broil nachos? ›

Bake, don't broil. Some nacho recipes will call for broiling, but we usually recommend baking instead. It may take a bit longer, but the cheese will melt more evenly, and the toppings will warm up thoroughly this way. If you do choose to broil, be sure to keep a close eye on the nachos, as they can burn quickly.

What order do you build nachos in? ›

Start with a base of tortilla chips, cheese, salsa, jalapeño, and any warm fillings like meats and veggies. Once the cheese melts, remove from the oven, add another layer, and repeat. This extra step ensures your nachos are well-covered and evenly baked from top to bottom.

Do you put toppings or cheese first? ›

Cheese always goes belowthe toppings

You've got your dough as the foundation. Then your sauce. The cheese is the next solid layer. Then your toppings (after all, they're called top-pings and not bottom-ings), and then finally your garnishes like basil, pepper, fresh mozzarella, etc, after the pizza is cooked.

Do pizza toppings go on before or after baking? ›

When making pizza what goes on first? Typically tomato sauce will go on first on top of the dough, then cheese and then toppings. This allows the cheese to bubble and brown and the toppings to get direct heat and become crisp.
