People are only just realising what the Cadbury Creme Egg is made of (2024)

PEOPLE are only just realising what is inside a Cadbury Creme Egg.

Easter is upon us and one of the best ways to celebrate is with a basket full of Creme Eggs.

The chocolate treat is a springtime staple with its hard, bittersweet cocoa egg-shaped shell and creamy middle.

But many people have wondered for years what the gooey centre is actually full of.

Twitter users have been left stumped over the Cadbury confection's white and yellow centre.

Others had no idea too and said: "What’s inside a creme egg? Why is the cream orange and white"

One person was quick to answer the second half of the question, but countless others were puzzled as to what the inside of the egg is actually made of.

"The white cream resembles the egg white and the yellow resembles the yolk," she said.

People on Twitter jokingly wondered if it was "toothpaste" or "frosting".

Others said they thought the inside was a type of caramel or nougat.

As it turns out, Cadbury Creme Eggs' centre is actually made of fondant and the "yolk" is dyed yellow with food colouring.

According to Cadbury, the middle of the Egg is comprised of sugar, milk, glucose syrup, cocoa butter, invert sugar syrup, dried whey, vegetable fats and dried egg white.

Content creator Abbey, known online as@abbeythefoodscientist onTikTok, recently explained that the inside is made of fondant.

She said: "Opening a Cadbury Creme Egg! The inside is a mixture of sugar, corn syrup, and water, or what's called fondant."

In response to the video on TikTok, one fan said: "Now I'm craving one bad and we don't have them out yet. Pure Deliciousness right there," said another viewer.

But another said: "Am I the only one who doesn't like the filling."

The confectionery giant says that over 500million Creme Eggs are made year-round and not just around Easter time.

Two-thirds of those delicious chocolate ovals are consumed by just UK citizens alone.

About £70million are spent by the company to mass-produce the sweet treats.

Shoppers can pick up a single 40g Creme Egg for as little as 45p and they're also available in packs of 5 for as little as £2 depending on the supermarket you visit.

And while the delicacy is great to bring up those glucose levels for a high-sugar rush, the nutritional value of these purple foiled gems is not so yummy.

According toCadbury's website, each 40g Creme Egg contains 26.5g of sugar, as well as 6.1g of fat and 3.7g of saturates.

Subway has just launched a bizarre new sandwich with a Creme Egg filling in time for Easter.

TwoCreme Eggsare squashed and melted onto a 6" toasted Italian white bread roll - but it won't be to everyone's taste.
