Mrs. was the widow of Russell E. Wood. She was administrative assistant to the late Col. Henry E.

Kendall, Head of the Employment Security Commission. She was his administrative assistant from 1946 until his retirement in 1973. From 1937 until 1946, she served as secretary to Col. A.L. Fletcher, who chaired the Employment Security Commission.

Box 17623, Raleigh, N.C. 27619. RUTH V. PENNY RALEIGH Ruth V. Penny, 91, of Cary Health and Rehabilitation Center, died Sunday, July 28, at the center.

She had been in failing health a number of years. Mrs. Penny was born in Halifax County on May 3, 1905 to George Guy Viverette and Blanche Whitehead Viverette. She attended Halifax County schools and business school in Richmond, Va. A Wake county resident for more than 50 years, she retired from Wake Memorial Hospital as housekeeping supervisor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O.C. Penny; her son, 0.C. Penny four sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara P. Broughton of Raleigh; three brothers, Glenn G.

Viverette and Hugh J. Viverette, both of Raleigh; and Roland Gamble of Newport, N.C.; four grandchildren, Terry Cramblit of Bridgeville, Richard Broughton Jr. of Raleigh, Vikki B. Hodges of Lexington, N.C., Kim B. Fikoski of Cape Coral, one great-grandchild, Nichole Grimes of Bridgeville, Pa.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 1996 at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday evening at Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 Saint Mary's St. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

MARY E. JACKSON FALCON Mrs. Mary Ellen Jackson, 89, of Golden Years Nursing Home, formerly of OBJ Road, Dunn, died Saturday. She was a native of Harnett County, a daughter of the late Carson and Ellen Tart Surles. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.

Tuesday at Skinner Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Savannah Hill Church Cemetery. JACKSON VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. Robert George Jackson, 69, of Virginia Beach, went to be with the Lord on July 27, 1996. Mr. Jackson was a native of Robersonville, North Carolina. Mr.

Jackson was the widower of Mildred V. Jackson. He served in the United States Coast Guard and retired after 20 years of service. Mr. Jackson was employed at Norfolk Collegiate School.

He was a Christian, a loving father and will be missed greatly by all his family and friends. Survivors include, one daughter, Becky A. Horstman of Virginia Beach; one stepdaughter, Debby Backus of Waveland, Mississippi; one stepson, Sidney K. WILLIAM T. BRASWELL JR. WHITAKERS William Thomas Braswell retired farmer, died July 27, 1996. He was born in Edgecombe County, August 6, 1909, son of Jessie Marion Cutchin and William Thomas Braswell. Also preceding him in death, were his sister, Margaret Virginia Braswell Woodard, and a brother, Marion Astor Braswell.

Miss Tilley taught in the Durham City Schools for 45 years until her retirement. She a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honory Society for Teachers, Home Economists in Home and Community.
